I think he called us all idiots.\u00a0 That&#8217;s ok &#8211; I&#8217;m a better man for reading that book cover to cover many times.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t know who John Muir was, he is the author of &#8220;<i>How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive; A Manual of Step-By-Step Procedures for the Compleat Idiot<\/i>.&#8221; He and artist Peter Aschwanden teamed up to unknowingly create what would be the first of many &#8220;for Dummies&#8221; type books.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-8436 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kwbugclub.org\/armaturenbrett\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/idiotbook-220x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.kwbugclub.org\/armaturenbrett\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/idiotbook-220x300.jpg 220w, https:\/\/www.kwbugclub.org\/armaturenbrett\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/idiotbook.jpg 587w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 220px) 100vw, 220px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I can highly recommend purchasing a copy of this book as it speaks to all people, regardless of mechanical ability.\u00a0 It was one of the greatest introductory guides to working on VW&#8217;s,\u00a0 or even as an introduction to using basic hand tools and techniques.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some audio samples from Mr. Muir.\u00a0 They may help you diagnose any expensive noises your engine seems to be making. I found them over on archive.org, so I presume they are in the public domain.
